Distinguish between the characteristics of short-term sensory store, short-term

memory and long-term memory.

Short-Term Sensory Store

·      Capacity-

·      Duration- Tenths of a second (0.5sec)

·      Retrieval- it is only retained and processed if it is attended to

Short-Term Memory

·      Capacity- Limited capacity (7 +/- 2)

·      Duration- Seconds to minutes (90% lost within 10 sec)

·      Retrieval- Only interpretation is retained

Long-Term Memory

·      Capacity- No storage limitation

·      Duration-

·      Retrieval- Need process and retrieval (sometimes difficult to retrieve information)
