4.3.4

Explain that a change in body position during sporting activities can change the position of the center of mass.

The center of mass is the mathematical point around which the mass of a body or object is evenly distributed. The center of mass can change during a sporting activity. For example, when doing the high jump, the center of mass changes from being inside the body when the person is taking their approach. However as they are going over the bar, the mathematical point around which their mass is evenly distributed is outside their body and travels under the bar while they travel over the bar.
