Outline glycogenolysis and lipolysis.

Glycogenolysis is the break down of glycogen when the body needs glucose (formation of glucose from glycogen). If the glycogen comes from the skeletal muscle it can only be used in the skeletal muscles. If the glycogen comes from the liver, it can enter the blood stream and go anywhere in the body.

Lipolysis is the break down of triglycerides stored in fat cells. Triglycerides go through hydrolysis and are broken into glycerol and fatty acids. The fatty acids are released into the bloodstream and circulate through the body. They are used in the mitochondria -> acetyl coA (Krebs cycle- ATP production)
